Landslide on Yamunotri Highway due to heavy rains, Ganga flowing near danger mark
Trinamool Congress MLA from Kamarhati, Madan Mitra, who recently sparked a major controversy with his comments on the Kasba Law College gang rape case, has responded to the show-cause notice issued by his party. According to sources, Mitra sent a letter of reply to the party's state president, Subrata Bakshi, in which he has offered an "unconditional apology."
Mitra had come under fire for his victim-blaming remarks, where he stated, "If the girl had not gone to the union room, such an incident would not have happened." This statement drew widespread condemnation from the public, opposition parties, and even members of his own party, who found the comments insensitive and unacceptable from a public representative.
The controversial statement created a significant discomfort within the Trinamool Congress, which has been trying to distance itself from the remarks made by its leaders on the issue. The party swiftly issued a show-cause notice to Mitra, demanding an explanation for his comments that had tarnished the party's image and contradicted its stance on crimes against women.
In his letter, Madan Mitra reportedly stated that he is a loyal and long-serving soldier of the party. He expressed regret for his comments, acknowledging that if they had damaged the party's image, he was sorry. By offering an unconditional apology, Mitra is seen to be trying to contain the damage and assuage the party leadership's concerns.
